FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 1, 2015 Bloomington, IN The Monroe County History Center had another successful Gayle Cook Junior Historian Program this summer. One week of camp was “’Let Your Garden Grow’ Gardening Camp,” which was supported by a grant from the George E. Archer Foundation. During the week-long camp, participating youth learned about the history of gardening from early settlement in Monroe County to World War II “victory gardens” to the “local foods” and sustainability movement of today. The campers also took field trips to the IU Greenhouse and Wylie House Museum. Campers also learned about gardening techniques and started their own herb and vegetable gardens. Each camper left with a dozen plants and gardening equipment to use at home.
